A thought came through my mind the other day as I was putting up my Christmas Decorations: does anyone drink hot chocolate at any other time of the year or just during the holidays? Personally, I mostly drink hot chocolate during the holidays, lately I’ve been drinking coffee more than anything.
When my husband and I were in the process of buying our house, one thing that I knew I wanted was a coffee bar. Back then, Pinterest was flooding with coffee bar ideas and I had at least 20 pinned to my home inspiration board. The process of moving was super expensive so starting a renovation project to add a built in coffee bar (like the pins) was out of the question. Instead, I found an accent desk that a friend of mine was selling for five dollars and spruced it up a little. I added a new coat of paint, new handles and it was just like new. Once we moved in completely, I was able to make my own.
Having a coffee bar is great, it’s probably the one thing that gets used most often in my home. My husband likes to make himself a cup of coffee to start his morning and as he is winds down his day. I use it to wake myself up from staying up too late the night before.
One awesome thing that I have discovered is that I can personalize it as the seasons go on. In the picture above added some pumpkins and if you have read my Halloween Decor post, you can see how I decorated this fall. Well… for Christmas it transforms into a Hot Chocolate Bar! I was able to snag some cute pieces during the after Christmas sales and the rest of the decor was gifted to me throughout the year. I was afraid that some of the pieces would not go together but I’m loving the way it looks regardless!
The majority of the decor is from Hobby Lobby, the sign that says “Have a Cup of Cheer” is from the Dollar Tree and my adorable snowman mugs are from Pier 1 Imports. My hot chocolate bar adds additional cheer for this Holiday Season and is even getting my husband excited for Christmas so much so that I added a hot chocolate tray that adds mobility to our hot chocolate fun.
During Black Friday, I was shopping with my mom and sister and I found the cutest peppermint striped tray and mini sign at Kirklands. When I saw them I instantly thought of a hot chocolate tray for my little family’s movie nights! It would add more convenience because no one would have to get up to make another or add more toppings! I bought them and I was not disappointed. I used some dollar store glassware to house peppermint sticks, hazelnut straw cookies and marshmallows. I lined then lined up peppermint bark for melting. I like to drop them in for a richer, minty cup of hot chocolate, and it is absolutely delicious.
While writing this post I realized why I mostly drink hot chocolate during the holidays. It is because I love adding Christmas touches! It brings me extra happiness seeing my husband and daughter smile like excited little kids when they see that I set up the tray for hot chocolate. Since getting this tray we have used it every other night while watching our favorite Christmas movies. Tis the season for Hot Chocolate! Thank you for reading, happy holidays!
